Read →Updated 2026-10-09Dead of Darkness 2 is the sequel to the 2025 survival horror Dead of Darkness, announced on October 7, 2026 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch. This site tracks everything the developer shares about it and explains the systems as they surface — the release information, the story and cast, and the way the game actually plays.

What Dead of Darkness 2 is
Dead of Darkness 2 is an isometric 2D survival horror game by Retrofiction Games, the German solo studio behind the first game. The sequel is in development with no release date yet; the developer's announcement says the inventory and map overhaul has been the biggest challenge so far. Console ports are once again handled by eastasiasoft.
The story moves the series to 1985 Pennsylvania. Jun Takehara lives a quiet life in a trailer deep in the Appalachians — until she finds a wounded little girl in the woods on a hunting trip, and two suspicious policemen come looking soon after. The story escalates into the town of Goldren Creek, where the sequel's lore and its 28-strong cast live.
What changes from the first game
The first Dead of Darkness was a straight-on 2D survival horror. The sequel rebuilds the presentation: a full isometric 2D view, larger and more detailed sprites, more frames of animation, and a soundtrack of more than 45 tracks. The systems get quality-of-life passes too — inventory management and navigation via map were reworked first.
